Mes thématiques de recherche sont centrées autour du développement de la SAT, mais orientées suivant 3 axes majeurs.

  • La physique et la modélisation des émetteurs de champ,
  • L’instrumentation scientifique aux limites.
  • L’interaction pointe / onde électromagnétique

Physique de l’Emission de champ :

Le premier axe concerne les principes physiques fondamentaux régissant l’instrument (émission de champ), et leurs conséquences d’un point de vue métrologique. Mon sujet de thèse de doctorat portait sur l’étude de la fonction de transfert pointe – image de la sonde atomique tomographique. En particulier j’ai étudié les limites fondamentales de l’instrument en termes de résolution spatiale et j’ai étudié et développé des méthodes de correction des aberrations d’image introduite par les lois physiques mises en jeu au cours de l’analyse de l’échantillon.  Un des résultats saillants de mes travaux de thèse est le développement d’un outil de modélisation du processus de formation des images en sonde 3D. En 2001, dans le cadre d’un post-doctorat dans le département des matériaux de l’Université d’Oxford (UK, Marie Curie Fellowship), j’ai adapté mon modèle au cas particulier des matériaux multicouches aux propriétés de magnétorésistance géante de type CuFeCo (vannes de spin). Ainsi, depuis 20 ans j’ai apporté une contribution importante  grâce à mes travaux à l’amélioration des algorithmes de reconstruction et de traitement de données ainsi qu’à la compréhension des artefacts expérimentaux . J’ai d’ailleurs rédigé plusieurs articles de revue sur ce sujet et contribué récemment à plusieurs chapitres de livres.

J’ai contribué, depuis les premiers résultats tirés de ma thèse de doctorat, à faire le lien entre les aberrations d’images, fondamentales pour la métrologie de l’instrument, et les mécanismes physiques d’émission de particules de la surface d’un matériau sous champ électrique colossal, domaine encore peu exploré à l’interface entre la physique du solide, la physico-chimie des surfaces, et la physique atomique.

Cette thématique que je porte dans le département d’Instrumentation du GPM est un point fort du laboratoire  Je coordonne ainsi plusieurs projets de recherche exploratoire pour mieux comprendre les limites physiques dans l’analyse des matériaux en sonde atomique .

Instrumentation aux limites :

Concernant l’aspect instrumental, j’ai participé au développement des détecteurs de dernière génération de sonde atomique  je coordonne et travaille sur les développements instrumentaux autour de la sonde atomique. Ces développements sont en partie développés dans le cadre de contrats de collaboration avec la société CAMECA . Notons aussi mon implication dans la mise au point de nouvelles techniques innovantes parallèles à la SAT comme le FIM 3D  ou récemment le couplage SAT /mPL , et le couplage SAT/MET . J’ai de même développé de nombreuses méthodes originales de traitement de données pour l’instrument. Ces développements ont donnés lieu à des applications variées en sciences des matériaux par l’ouverture de l’instrument aux semi-conducteurs, aux matériaux fragiles, et aux diélectriques.

Physique de l’interaction pointe / onde EM :

L’aspect théorique de l’instrument est un axe essentiel de mes recherches. De nouveaux modèles physiques ont ainsi été développés pour comprendre les mécanismes physiques mis en jeu dans l’émission des atomes en sonde atomique, sous l’action ou non d’une impulsion d’excitation (laser fs ou électrique sub-ns). Cette compréhension est essentielle d’un point de vue fondamental. L’interaction de l’émetteur à effet de champ, objet sub-longueur d’onde avec une onde EM intense est un axe de recherche en plein développement car commun aux techniques a-SNOM (aperturless Scanning Near field optical Microscopy), optical tweeters, photoinduced STM, laser induced nano patterning ou laser induced Field emission microscopy).

Dans toutes ces techniques il est nécessaire de séparer l’influence des effets ultra rapides induits par le champ laser des phénomènes plus lents tels que les effets thermiques. De nouvelles méthodes de mesures pompe-sonde ont été développées dans ce but et permis d’évaluer les différentes contributions dans le cas des métaux et des semi-conducteurs. J’ai aussi mis au point des méthodes de mesure inédites qui permettent par exemple d’évaluer l’efficacité d’absorption de l’émetteur sous éclairement laser qui ont été utilisé récemment pour démontrer la métallisation des isolants sous l’effet du champ intense de surface. J’ai également mis au point les techniques expérimentales montrant la réduction de la résistivité des matériaux isolants sous l’effet du champ électrique et de l’éclairement laser, rendant possible l’analyse par sonde atomique sur ces échantillons. Une partie importante ces recherches se fait aussi dans le cadre de coopérations à l’échelle régionale avec le financement de projets d’envergure dans les Grand Réseaux de Recherche (GRR-EEM). J
