The Groupe de Physique des Matériaux (GPM) is a "Unité Mixte de Recherche" (UMR 6634) from University Rouen Normandy, INSA of Rouen Normandy and CNRS.

With more than fifty years of history in scientific instrumentation, the laboratory is one of the pioneer in the development of atom probe tomography. Besides, our main research activities are dedicated to the investigation of materials down to atomic scale thanks to the combination of various techniques and modelling approaches. These activities are distributed within five departments:

APT School 2024

This school will provide a thorough background on the principles of the atom probe technique, from the theory of the field evaporation to data mining. Lectures will focus on the basics of APT with a special emphasis on up-to-date techniques (laser-pulsing, DLD detectors, FIB specimen preparation). Beside this lecture series, practicals are organized including specimen preparation, Field Ion Microscopy, APT analysis and data mining.

A world first at the Groupe de Physique des Matériaux

In 2024, a team from the Groupe de Physique des Matériaux (GPM) succeeded in unifying two major high-resolution microscopy techniques into a single instrument: atom probe tomography and transmission electron microscopy. This achievement, published in Nature Communications, paves the way for a better convergence of these techniques, enabling more precise three-dimensional atomic-scale descriptions of matter.
